CMD has planned to offer a range of development and training workshops throughout the year to assist Ministers in specific areas or skills required in ministry. A full range of workshops is available on the events page of our website.
If you would like to conduct any of the following training please don’t hesitate to contact us to deliver these workshops in an environment close to you (minimum number is usually 6 persons).
Some of our workshops are now available online.
Working through people
Ministers have identified a significant need to contextualise best practice in working with people in ministry. Courses we offer include:
- Staffing / People Management – this 2 day workshop helping Christian leaders consider how to employ, lead and manage people well within the context of the Christian church. This course begins with role planning – covers recruitment, on-boarding and development – performance management – and exiting well (this course is available online).
- Coaching – a half day workshop helps participants think about what care for a persona and the task looks like when we work as Christians. This topic will consider discipling a person, giving feedback and helping a person to move forward on a task. This course is often combined with the day workshop on delegation (this course is available online).
- Conflict Management – We explore personal conflict and, with the assistance of an organisational psychologist, explore how people respond to and how we deal with conflict.
- Recruitment – Equipping pastors in the much needed skills to understand the role and identify the best candidate as they recruit staff in a way that models the love of Christ.
- Wealth with Purpose – group sessions available on request (min number combined 6).
Competency based training
These are competencies CMD has been asked by clergy to provide training in more regularly. Courses we offer include:
- Delegation (Multiplication of ministry) – Multiplication of ministry through careful delegation – helping participants to consider how they work with and through others to live out Christ’s mission (this course is available online). NB this course is usually partnered with Coaching.
- Personal effectiveness (time management) – Helping pastors to consider how they prioritise their time to focus on the most important tasks.
Leadership based training
Courses we offer include:
- Strategic Planning – helping pastors to understand the strategic planning process and demystifying the steps required to build a strategic plan.
- Change Management – One of the hardest competencies this workshop is set up to help pastors understand how to lead and manage change
- Resilience – Helping ministers and church leaders consider how they can, under God, build resilience into their ministry
- Leadership and Management – Explore the difference between management and leadership and helping pastors to explore how they can be more effective leaders of the church that God has entrusted to them. (NB – this course is provided by Oilstone)
Ministry Workshops
CMD regularly runs workshops in the following areas in parish or with groups of ministers to help churches develop good ministry practice in the following areas:
- Church Strategy & Planning – facilitating the planning process with leadership teams and helping them to create clear plans for implementation of effective ministry
- Small Groups – workshops for small group leaders to create alignment between this key ministry and the overall mission of the church. Helping leaders to create a strong understanding and expectation for good practice within the particular church’s context.
- Welcome & Integration – workshops to build a clear understanding of the role of this area in effective ministry and tailoring good practice to the specific church’s environment.
- Invitation – Building a sense of invitation and sharing faith with a church
- Children & Youth Ministry (in conjunction with Youthworks) – creating an understanding of good practice with the local church and setting objectives for implementation.
Ministry Simulation Game
CMD has developed a ministry simulation game which compresses decisions made over 5 years of ministry into a 2-3 hour interactive gaming environment. Trainees consider the impact of their time allocation and decision making on church life in a safe, fun environment. Our ministry simulation game brings the challenges of church leadership into sharp focus – group sessions available on request (min number 6).
Developing Rectors Program
This program is developed to assist ministers to transition from an Assistant Minister position into the very challenging and unique role of a Rector. It involves:
- A two day induction course to create an understanding the key change associated with this new role
- A two year curriculum to equip the Rector in key skills required for this new role
- Provision of a Mentor to support the Rector through the two year period and support them in implementation
- Establishing a cohort of new Rectors that can support each other as they journey through this new role
